Chinese Internet Giant Baidu Prepares to Launch First Self-Driving Passenger Bus

Chinese transit systems will be getting an expensive facelift as internet search provider Baidu plans to fully integrate the country’s first autonomous passenger bus in 2021, and hopefully in 2018, have one out on the road. The bus itself will follow a predetermined route, but in which city it will be traveling remains a mystery. While transit officials in the Washington, D.C. have been working overtime to repair the city’s aging subway system, a new kind of bus with some serious personality is making its debut in the nation’s capital. It’s called Olli, and it’s got the brain of IBM’s Watson computing system. Olli might be smaller than other buses in the city, but it’s a whole lot smarter.
